Self reflection
The new knowledge and skills I gained during this course were...
This course helped me to refine my academic writing skill and think critically about how to format a research paper and convey information.
The new knowledge and skills will benefit me by...
The process of revising and editing our group research paper helped to strengthen my editorial skills. Prior to this exercise I did not realize how important editing a paper can be. The ability to better assess and edit papers is a skill that I can apply to any writing or speaking project I encounter in the future.
I struggle with...
Presenting information and data proved to be challenging at times. With this project I was able to practice using fewer words to present information. At times it was difficult to shorten sections of the project and convey the same amount of information. After this exercise I feel better about my ability to be an efficient and concise writer but it is a skill I will have to continue to develop.
I feel pretty good about...
This project required a lot of time and energy to achieve our final draft. I was quite happy with our final submission and feel a sense of pride for myself and appreciation for my group. This is the first academic work I have submitted for publication and to me is a great accomplishment.
Other reflective thoughts...
Working on a large project with a group can be a challenging task. In this exercise I learned that communication is key and the more the group talks and interacts the better the progress. I wasn't initially the group's appointed leader but as the writer I quickly assumed a lead role to ensure I had everything I needed to do my part. Sometimes when no one was quick to speak up to take on a task I had to subtly delegate a job to a group member. I learned to ask others for help rather than take on more duties when necessary and that I can't do it all on my own. I feel that being the group's writer was a big challenge and I am glad I was able to rise to the challenge to bring out our group's potential.
