Course Description
DOS 531 takes an in depth look at the principles and practice of medical dosimetry applied in the field of radiation oncology. In this course students are familiarized with the various types of diseases process and their epidemiology, causes and symptoms, histology, treatment approaches, detection and staging methods, and treatment portal design.
Assessment
Weekly readings of text book Radiation Oncology Management Decisions (Chao 3rd edition.) were assigned along with supplemental notes, lectures, and videos. Assessment of comprehension and progress in this course took the form of weekly quizzes and projects. Contouring assessments utilizing the proknowsystems.com teaching and evaluation tool were assigned. Furthermore a Head and Neck lab assignment required students to research and present information related to a treatment plan from clinic and submit it for discussion among peers.

Exercises like the Proknow contouring lab and Head and Neck Assignment did much to develop my understanding from the theoretical realm of didactic study to application. Tools and assignments like this are valuable for the student to bridge the gap between academic coursework to clinical application.
