Course Description
DOS 518 covers complicated topics encountered by medical dosimetrists practicing in the field. Subjects such as ethics, legalities, licensing agencies and accreditation organizations, as well as safety issues were covered in course material.
Assessment
Weekly supplemental notes and lectures were assigned to course participants. Assessment of comprehension and progress in this course took the form of weekly discussions, a mock interview activity, and a final exam related to course topics.
-Course discussions:
Each week students answered a topic question and replied to each other's posts. Friendly discussion and debate added depth to our weekly study materials and readings. Take a look at my discussion posts by clicking the links below: -Mock interview:
The mock interview was an exercise to prepare students for professional interviews anticipated in the near future. Frequently covered interview questions were presented and students recorded their responses. A process of peer review assessed those responses and refined our interview responses.
Self reflection
The new knowledge and skills I gained during this course were...
This course familiarized me with topics related to medical dosimetry that aren't necessarily commonly discussed in clinical practice.
The new knowledge and skills will benefit me by...
Openly discussing and researching lesser covered topics pertinent to the field of medical dosimetry has made me feel more informed on the larger context of what medical dosimetry entails.
I struggle with...
I feel this course has only touched the surface of topics such as ethics and legalities. There is much to remember and research related to these topics that doesn't play a daily role in my functions as a dosimetry resident student. It will take dedicated diligence to stay abreast of these topics.
I feel pretty good about...
I enjoyed this course and reading about the topics covered. There is much to learn but to me these topics are interesting and I feel motivated to follow up on matters covered in this course.
Other reflective thoughts...
A lot of diverse material was covered in this course and it is a lot to keep track of. While I found it interesting to study, I also found these topics aren't necessarily regularly discussed in clinical practice.
